‘The View’ Enraged By Trump’s “Despicable” And “Egregious” Remarks Blaming DEI For D.C. Plane Crash

The View had to plenty to say about President Donald Trump‘s words after the tragic American Airlines plane crash, and none of it was exactly flattering.

Just one day after an American Airlines plane and an Army helicopter crashed right outside of Washington, D.C.’s Reagan international airport on Wednesday (Jan. 29), President Trump swiftly blamed the tragedy on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. While speaking to reporters yesterday (Jan. 30), Trump suggested the air traffic controllers working during the crash were hired because of DEI and were not “our smartest people.”

“It doesn’t matter what they look like, how they speak, who they are,” he said, per NBC News. “They have to be talented, naturally talented. Geniuses. Can’t have regular people doing their job. We can’t have regular people doing this job. They won’t be able to do it, but we’ll restore faith in American air travel.”

After playing a clip of Trump’s comments on this morning’s episode, the women were disgusted, with Joy Behar pointing out, “Victims were still being taken out of the Potomac while he was saying this.”

Meanwhile, Sara Haines — who said Trump’s “jump to DEI” was “egregious and illogical” — called out the president for his “continual and predicable lack of impulse control.”

She also accused him of saying “the worst thing you can say to someone” after a tragedy by suggesting the crash could have been avoided “without any evidence.” When Haines said, “the loose way he speaks about it without any knowledge is heartbreaking,” Behar agreed, uttering, “disgraceful.”

Ana Navarro delivered her own fiery takedown when she proclaimed, “when you talk about DEI and Trump, it means despicable, enraging idiocy. That’s what his DEI means.”

As for Sunny Hostin, she refused to “dignify” Trump’s DEI remarks, but did note that the president fired the heads of the transportation security administration during his first week back in office, as well as “all the members of a key aviation security advisory group.”

Per the Associated Press, Trump’s order meant the committee would “technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports.”

Accusing Trump of “blowing things up,” Hostin said, “This is the result.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin seemingly countered Hostin’s argument when she cautioned, “Any attempts to swiftly blame Donald Trump are wrong.”

Yet, she remained critical of Trump’s remarks, adding, “And it’s even more ridiculous that he is the president of the United States and tries to point to DEI when he has no information to back that that is, in fact, what caused this accident.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
