Legendary actor Russ Tamblyn and his daughter Amber Tamblyn stopped by this morning’s episode of The View, where Amber joked that she had given her father an “edible” before their interview.
The father-daughter duo appeared on the hit daytime talk show to promote Russ’ new memoir, Dancing on the Edge: A Journey of Living, Loving and Tumbling Through Hollywood. The 89-year-old actor is well-known for his roles in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), West Side Story (1961) and Peyton Place (1957).
“You said that tumbling is your main skill and that’s what got you into these parts,” Joy Behar pointed out, to which Russ replied, “I used it in all the films that I did. If I did a Western, I was able to leap on the back of a horse.”
As a clip of Russ performing a stunt in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers played on the screen, he said, “Look at that. That was pretty … uh …”
With Russ seemingly lost in thought, Amber — who is known for her role in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants — then joked, “I gave him an edible before we got here.”
Amber decided to help move her father along at another point in the interview while he was reflecting on how he inspired Elvis Presley‘s signature “pelvic” dance movies.
“I met him [at my house] then and I also came to visit Alex Romero who was the choreographer of ‘Jailhouse Rock.’ So I went to Alex and see how he was doing and saw Elvis again,” he remembered. “I hung out with him a lot. I went to the movies with him. The limos would pull up in front of the theater and everybody would get out and form a line.”
Russ seemed to become distracted by a clip of Presley, prompting Amber to take over the conversation.
“Basically — let me jump in here,” she said. “This is one of my favorite stories from when I was a little girl … Elvis came to the green room — you came backstage and he was like, ‘Oh, Russ. What do you think? Do you have any advice?’ Tell them what your advice was to him.”
Russ then replied, “Mainly, he did it anyway. He did his legs. But I got him to snap them more.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
