According to Bill Hudson, Goldie Hawn’s heart was not in it from the get-go. As noted by the Daily Mail, early on in their marriage, Hudson said there was already a glaring disconnect about what they both wanted. “I was consumed with love. I didn’t think life could get any better. I had just married the woman I loved and I felt like the luckiest guy on Earth,” he said of their “perfect” wedding day. “Then Goldie turned to me and whispered, ‘Are you sure we did the right thing?'”
Hudson went on to claim that Hawn requested that they have an open marriage, and soon he discovered that the actor had “a series of devastating character flaws.” He also said that while he had been loyal, she was the complete opposite. “I’ve always been a one-man woman. I wanted a family, a conventional life,” the musician added. “I remember Goldie’s dad Rut telling me, ‘She needs a different man for each of her moods.'” The two divorced in 1980 after four years of marriage, which Hudson reportedly initiated.

Hawn, for her part, remained tightlipped about her relationship with Hudson, and it’s likely because she never wanted their kids to think less of him. “The one thing that I learned from my mom is that no matter what you’re feeling and no matter what, I never heard a bad word about my father.,” their daughter, Kate Hudson, shared on the “Divorce Sucks!” podcast.
