I missed this when it happened just over two weeks ago. Tate’s former girlfriend Brianna Stern made a police report and filed a lawsuit in civil court accusing him of beating and threatening her during her 10-month relationship which began last July.
Ms. Stern, a model and influencer with her own cryptocurrency coin, was searching for advice, the lawsuit said, and Mr. Tate was looking for models to join him in Romania to help promote his crypto meme coin…
To exert his control over her, the lawsuit said, he asked Ms. Stern to get a tattoo with the words “Property of Tate,” which the lawsuit said he had required of several former girlfriends.
Ms. Stern said in the suit that Mr. Tate assaulted her during a stay at The Beverly Hills Hotel on March 10. Mr. Tate choked and beat Ms. Stern until she nearly lost consciousness despite her pleading for him to stop, according to court papers.
“While doing so, Tate told her repeatedly that if she ever crossed him, he was going to kill her,” the lawsuit said.
That was a long way from what Tate told Stern when they first had a long talk on a car ride where it was just the two of them.
“At the very beginning, he was super charming, loving, kind,” she said. “He said that everything he put out online was just a façade. He told me, ‘don’t pay attention to whatever you see about me, it’s not true’.
And initially, it seemed maybe he was different from his reputation online.
“He said ‘you’re my girl now, we’re together, we’re going to be together for ever.’ There was so much love-bombing. I was so dumb. He promised financial security, said he’d take care of me and I could quit my job and never have to worry about anything. He was unlike anyone I’d ever met.”…
Tate insisted they communicate only on the encrypted messaging apps Signal and WhatsApp, using the disappearing messages function as it was “more secure”. She managed to save one of many poems she says he wrote for her:
Across the seas, across the skies,
Two pookies live with loving ties.
One in LA, where palm trees sway,
The other in Bucharest far away.
Though miles apart, they laugh and play,
With calls and texts to fill each day.
She says Tate was careful never to behave this way in public as it didn’t fit his image. But over time, she says his behavior became more controlling. He allegedly made her give up passwords for all the accounts on her phone and had her add an app so he could track her location at all times.
The London Times‘ story includes images from text conversations she apparently saved. In one Tate allegedly wrote “you will give me a child this year b**ch.” He then added, “What’s the point in having you if I don’t beat you and impregnate you You should be thankful.”
In March, Tate flew to California where he had a meeting with Kanye West and then met up with Stern at a hotel afterwards. She says he became more aggressive than he had in the past and choked her.
“Plaintiff began crying and begging for him to stop. He would not,” the documents allege. “Tate continued to choke plaintiff, harder and harder, making plaintiff nearly lose consciousness.”
Stern claimed Tate could not climax sexually unless he “verbally degraded her to the point of feeling worthless and crying”. She wanted to leave after the reported attack took place, but was too scared, she said. The next morning, she pretended nothing was wrong and then left.
“The last words he said to me before I left the hotel were ‘Shut the f*** up, bitch. You will never backtalk me, you are my property’,” she alleged.
Tate’s attorney denies all of the allegations and claims Stern is doing this for “money and attention, not justice.”
We’ll have to wait and see what a court decides but my own take is that there’s a pretty clear pattern of behavior here, one that matches with a view of women Tate himself has publicly promoted in the past. This sort of thing seems to be how he made his money after all, i.e. convince women you love them and then convince them to work in your cam girl business. It’s grooming behavior and appears to be what Tate was teaching other men to do as well.
