Preparations are under way for the Royal Adelaide Show, with a significant recruitment drive launched to fill thousands of positions paying up to $60 an hour.
The show requires a considerable workforce to make sure it runs smoothly.
“For an event of this size it takes up to 10,000 volunteers and workers to deliver the Royal Adelaide Show,” spokesperson Jordan Philp said.
Event contractor GreenClean is aiming to recruit up to 150 casual workers to manage waste and maintain hygiene at the showgrounds.
“It’s a big job, it’s really important, the hygiene of the show is really important for people and for patrons… but it’s also really important for the livestock and agricultural spaces,” chief executive Charlie Sykes said.
Pay rates vary depending on the day of the week, ranging from more than $58 an hour on Sundays to $32 Monday to Friday, with no prior experience required for many of the roles.
There’s also the chance of opportunities to continue working with GreenClean at other events, including the Adelaide 500 and the Adelaide Fringe.
“It’s so much fun, the show is one of our favourite events each year, the team camaraderie is amazing,” Sykes said.
“You get to work with so many different people and we have had people come back every single year.”
There are plenty of other roles that need to be filled too, including ride operators, showbag sellers, security personnel, and staff for the Taste SA Pavilion.
“A lot of people share their memories of selling show bags in high school,” Philp said.
“It’s good timing because it’s uni break, it’s a good time to earn some extra cash.”
Job applications are available on the Royal Adelaide Show’s official website.
