The days of the paper receipt may soon become a thing of the past after another two Aussie retail giants announced they will start rolling out completely digitised versions.
National shopper favourites Kmart and Country Road revealed they will each switch to “smart receipts” – effective today – joining the likes of Tony Bianco, Cue, Converse JD Sports and General Pants, who already offer the system.
The smart receipts work by sending a completely itemised and taxcompliant docket direct to customers’ bank apps, where there is no risk of losing a paper copy.
“At Kmart, we’re always looking for ways to improve and enhance our customers’ in-store shopping experience,” Lil Velis-Bowker, Chief Customer Officer at Kmart said.
“Slyp Smart Receipts will allow our customers to process returns more easily but also have a history of their purchases at Kmart so they can re-purchase their favourite products.
“In particular at Christmas – the busiest time of year for us all – we hope the introduction of Slyp will make the lives of our customers a little easier and importantly, helps the environment by reducing our future reliance on printed receipts.”

So far, the only bank app in the country offering the smart receipts is the NAB, but “further payment partners, including major banks, are due to roll out the feature in the coming months”.
Millions of Australians will have access to the smart receipt system from today, just in time for the Christmas lead-up.
