Here comes the Fab Four.
The cast of the upcoming four biopics about the Beatles was announced by director Sam Mendes (“1917” and “Skyfall”) at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on Monday.
Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Harrison Dickinson will play John Lennon, Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison.
Each of the films, collectively called “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” will focus on one member of the iconic British rock band. All four movies will be released theatrically in April 2028.
Mendes, 59, brought the four actors out on stage at the event for the big announcement.
“We’re not just making one film about the Beatles — we’re making four,” the Oscar winner said. “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.” He also called the film series “the first binge-able theatrical experience.”
“There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,” Mendes added. “I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore and I think we found a way to do that.”
After their introductions, Mescal, 29, Dickinson, 28, Keoghan, 32, and Quinn, 31, each recited lyrics from the band’s song “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and then took a bow in front of the audience.
The official logline for “The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event” is: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.”
Mendes is producing the project with Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor and Alexandra Derbyshire for Neal Street Productions, in association with Apple Corps (the Beatles’ media company) for Sony Pictures.
The four interconnected movies about the Beatles were announced last year.
McCartney, Starr and the families of the late Lennon and Harrison gave the effort the go-ahead through Apple Corps.
Lennon was shot and killed outside the Dakota in New York City in 1980. Harrison died of cancer in 2001.
Starr, 84, recently told People that he’s “excited” to see the films about the legendary band.
“My life as a lad, John’s life, Paul’s life, George’s life, I mean, it must interact in some way,” the musician said. “There’ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there’ll be Beatles in Paul’s. We’ll all be there. So I’m excited to see what he does with it.”
Before CinemaCon, there was speculation that Mescal, Dickinson, Keoghan and Quinn were leading the Beatles movie — but they avoided confirming the news.
Mescal told Entertainment Tonight in Nov. 2024, “It would be an incredible story to be attached to. The fact that Sam Mendes is attached to direct, like truly, it would be a dream come true.”
