That Didn't Take Long...Allan Lichtman Edition

Two days ago, I wrote about the tantrum Allan Lichtman threw on Piers Morgan’s show, accusing Cenk Uyghur of blasphemy (yes, blasphemy!) for criticizing Lichtman’s famous 13 Keys method of predicting presidential elections.

Uyghur, with whom I disagree often and vehemently, is, at the very least, not a hypocritical know-nothing. He comes by his wrong opinions by using his considerable brainpower and says what he thinks. It is often wrongheaded, but he doesn’t throw around meaningless claims of authority based on credentials.

Come to think about it, I should write about The Young Turks sometime soon.

Anyway, Lichtman made a bold statement about how Twitter sucks and stalked off in a huff after people made relentless fun of his ridiculous outburst on Piers’ show.

Off to Bluesky Lichtman went, and off from Bluesky he returned to Twitter/X, deleting his tweet like he revises his model to make it reflect the new reality.

I expect that the Twitter/X diaspora will return someday soon, just as Lichtman has. Not only is Bluesky an echo chamber, but it is nearly empty. The promise of a left-wing utopia at Bluesky is as real as the promise that socialism will result in a paradise of leisure and prosperity.

Bluesky isn’t quite yet Venezuela; it’s more like Eastern Germany with a more efficient and pervasive Stasi than could exist in the 1970s when digital monitoring was a dream in the minds of totalitarians. John wrote about it the other day, and it sounds horrific. Even liberals can’t stand it.

If Bluesky is so bad that Alan Lichtman feels claustrophobic, it must be a totalitarian hellscape. As an academic, he is used to criticizing conservatives from a comfy, well-funded perch where he is revered as a Nostradamus. Maybe Bluesky isn’t comfy and lucrative enough for him.

Whatever the reason, Lichtman is yet another in the long line of people who promise to leave Twitter but who slink back, hoping nobody noticed they had left. It’s like the people who will surely move to Canada if Trump wins but who can’t quite leave the comfort of their Malibu mansions.

To be honest, I am glad to see him and all the leftists slink back to Twitter/X, and not just because I enjoy making fun of them. Ideological echo chambers are bad, and the more liberals there are on Twitter/X the better. Maybe, just maybe, I can learn from some of them or vice-versa.

We can all dream, right?
