A teenager believed to be from Queensland has died after crashing into a power pole in northern NSW in the early hours of Sunday morning.

NSW Police said the incident occurred in Boggabilla, just south of the Queensland border, at about 1am.

Police said the driver of a Ford Falcon, understood to be a 17-year-old boy, died at the scene.

An 18-year-old male passenger was taken to Goondiwindi Hospital in Queensland, where he was treated for minor injuries.

‘Officers from New England Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash,’ Police said.

It’s understood the teenagers had driven from Queensland shortly before the incident.

As of Friday, the number of lives lost on NSW roads stood at 141 – up ten from the same time last year.
