“Mostly what I saw was just the guy with the arm, we were trying to get towels around it and get anything to stop it bleeding basically,” witness Ellie Broughton said.

Police allege the incident involved two groups, known to each other, clashing in the busy shopping precinct.

The 17-year-old allegedly struck by a weapon is in Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is understood he has injuries to his arm and back but it is unclear what caused those injuries. An investigation is now underway.

Detectives later took three males – aged 15, 16 and 53 – into custody where they are being questioned by police.
