Teen, 16, dies after being trapped underneath tram despite frantic bid to revive her

A teenage girl has been killed after becoming trapped under a light rail tram in Sydney’s CBD.

Emergency services were called to George Street, Haymarket around midnight following reports of a 16-year-old pedestrian on the tracks underneath a carriage suffering from  critical injuries.

Police Rescue and Fire & Rescue NSW officers worked frantically to free the girl from the tracks.

She was treated at the scene but couldn’t be revived, despite desperate attempts by paramedics to save her.

The male tram driver, 52, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
