A 13-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after a mountain biking accident in NSW.

The teenager suffered head injuries and was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition on Friday.

The Mounties Care CareFlight Rapid Response Helicopter were called to the scene at Hornsby Quarry by NSW Ambulance just after 12.30pm, arriving less than 15 minutes later.

Even though the teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, paramedics put him into an induced coma and intubated him, to protect against brain injury.

The boy remains in hospital for treatment.
