Taxi driver killed in hit-and-run crash on I-88 in Naperville identified by family

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) — A taxi driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash on I-88 in Naperville Thursday night, Illinois State Police said.

The victim has been identified to ABC7 by family members as Julio Bello.

The crash involved a Nissan SUV taxi and an Audi sedan and occurred on the outbound I-88 near Raymond Drive just before 11 p.m., state police said.

The taxi driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

ABC7 spoke with the victim’s sister-in-law, who said he was a family man who has been a taxi driver for several years in the area.

The driver of the Audi left the car and ran off from the scene and is not in custody, police said.

T A search for the hit-and-run driver continued through the day Friday. Officers started a K9 search and put up drones late Thursday night near Winfield Road in an attempt to find the suspect.

I-88 was shut down for the investigation and has since reopened.

Illinois State Police is now handling the investigation as they continue to search for the driver. No arrests have been made.
