Police are appealing to the public for information after two men were stabbed in apparent random attacks in the inner-Sydney suburb of Redfern overnight.
A 38-year-old taxi driver and a 25-year-old food delivery driver were stabbed in two separate but related incidents several hours apart, police said.
Police have released images of a man they say can help their inquiries into the stabbings.
The 25-year-old has been released from hospital this morning, and the 38-year-old is expected to be released from Saint Vincent’s hospital later today.
Police were first alerted to an attack around 11pm yesterday, on the intersection of Redfern’s Walker street and James Street.
A taxi driver had called emergency services after a man allegedly got into his taxi, and stabbed him in his hands and chest.
The alleged attacker then ran away, police were told.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Saint Vincent’s hospital in a stable condition.
He later told police it was a “horrific ordeal”.
Several hours and several hundred metres away, a second attack took place around 2am today on Morehead street.
According to CCTV images, the attacker from earlier had entered an apartment building.
When he left the building, he encountered an UberEats driver.
The 25-year-old was stabbed several times in the back, police said.
He was taken to hospital in a stable condition and released this morning.
Police asked the community to come forward with any information about a man they are looking to locate and identify.
Police said he had a dark complexion and dark hair, and said he was shirtless at the time of the attacks.
They suggested he may live close to the area where the alleged attacks took place, and asked for the community’s co-operation.
