A teenage boy has died in a horror car crash on a major highway less than 24 hours into the New Year.
The 16-year-old pedestrian died in the collision on the Tasman highway in Tasmania’s south on Monday just before midnight.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at Orielton, north of Sorrell around 25 kilometres north-east of Hobart following reports of the accident.
Tasmania Police confirmed on Tuesday 2.20am that the the teen did not survive the incident.

The incident happened on the Tasman highway (pictured) with a 16-year-old boy killed in the car crash
The highway between Hobart and Tasmania’s east coast has been blocked in both directions as Orielton Police continue to investigate the incident.
A road block has been put up at Brinktop Road, south of Oreilton and toward the northern part of the crash scene at Greens Road.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Tasmania Police for comment.
