Sydney’s Taronga Zoo has welcomed the birth of an adorable koala joey named Sky. The joey is estimated to be eight months old and was born to parents Storm and Wattle.

Sky has reached many milestones since his birth. The little koala has already progressed from sitting in his mum’s pouch to hitching a ride on her back.

The baby koala has also expanded his palette by snacking on solid eucalyptus leaves. However, his current favourite snack is milk from his mum’s pouch.

For the first six months of a koala’s life, they drink from the teat found in its mother’s pouch.

A few weeks before they move to solid leaves, they snack on what’s known as pap, which acts as a training diet to help the joey transition to eucalyptus leaves.

Sky is Taronga Zoo’s 19th koala. His keepers describe him as adventurous and say they expect the little explorer to move from his mother’s back to the trees in his enclosure within the next week.
