The MEL-SYD route has capacity for 702,744 seats, the fifth busiest behind domestic flight routes in South Korea, Japan and Vietnam, data from flight analytics provider OAG shows.

The second busiest route is Sapporo New Chitose to Tokyo Haneda in Japan, moving up two places this month with 985,684 seats.

Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City moved down to third place with 979,951 seats and Fukuoka to Tokyo Haneda is fourth with 963,490 seats.
The busiest airline route in the United States is currently between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, with 322,225 seats.
The busiest international route is between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore Changi with 407,428 seats in January 2023.
