Officers were told the 32-year-old was waiting with friends for a ride-share when a taxi stopped nearby.

A passenger jumped out of the taxi and allegedly punched the man in the face.

Police say the pair did not know each other.

The alleged perpetrator fled in the taxi while the man sought help at a nearby convenience store.

The 32-year-old was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated for facial lacerations, and shock.

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault and are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
