Six injured as cycle road race on Sydney’s outskirts ends in a MASSIVE pile-up with 15 bikes smashed up as two helicopters rush to the scene

Six people have been left injured after a massive crash at a cycle road race in Sydney’s northern outskirts. 

Paramedics were called to reports of a bike crash involving multiple cyclists on West Head Rd, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park around 7.45am.  

Six people were treated for injuries, which ranged from serious to minor, including head, chest, collar bone and shoulder injuries.

All patients were males in their 40s.

Authorities believe up to 15 bikes crashed during the West Head Road race. 

Two helicopters are at the scene assessing those with serious injuries.

‘NSW Ambulance engaged a number of resources, including two helicopters with medical teams on board, extended care paramedics and extended care paramedics to assist in the response,’ a spokesperson said.

‘The patients were taken to Westmead, Royal North Shore and Northern Beaches Hospitals for further treatment.’

Police also attended the scene to assist with logistics. 

The West Head Road Race is a contest held by the Manly Warringah Cycle Club, which runs through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
