The new Melbourne has almost 19,000 more people than Sydney, with a total of about 5.8 million.

By 2032- 2033, Sydney’s population is expected reach 6.06 million, compared to 6.1 million for Melbourne – alongside whatever extra has come with the inclusion of Melton.
New South Wales will remain the most populous state, however, with 9.1 million people by 2032-33, compared to Victoria’s 7.8 million.
