Suspects lead LA cops on wild chase on live TV while carjacking multiple vehicles — including big rig

A pair of armed suspects led LA cops on a wild highway chase on live TV over the weekend, carjacking multiple vehicles — including a big-rig tanker — before escaping.

One of the suspects reportedly fired gunshots at California Highway Patrol officers early on in the bizarre, hour-long pursuit as they fled driving on the wrong side of the highway, according to ABC 7 News.

The dangerous drama started around 10:40 p.m. Sunday in the San Fernando Valley when Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a dark-colored pickup truck that had been stolen at gunpoint. The two suspects in the truck started pinning in other vehicles and tried unsuccessfully to hijack two of them.

They eventually cornered a massive semi-truck tanker on the 5 Freeway near Sylmar and stole it after its panicked driver ran out, heading toward downtown Los Angeles and dangerously circling high-rises on pedestrian-heavy streets for some time, Fox LA reported.

Commercial truck drivers watching the chase on TV called into ABC 7 and said the truck did not appear to be carrying any hazardous material and that it may have been a milk truck.

The suspects eventually ditched the big rig downtown and carjacked a white pickup truck as LAPD issued a warning to the public that the suspects should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

The chase continued at much higher speeds at this point, with the suspects driving the wrong way on Interstate 10, according to Fox. The two briefly stopped in LA’s Boyle Heights neighborhood and switched seats.

Then after another few minutes driving, they jumped out of the white pickup and carjacked another vehicle, a black sedan, and police lost track of them in Lincoln Heights, NBC LA reported.

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.

The LAPD, CHP and LASD did not immediately return Post requests for comment.
