A man found in the driveway of a home on Middlemount Street in Donnybrook yesterday has been identified as a 19-year-old man from Lalor, police have confirmed.
There was a struggle during the alleged attack and a firearm was taken off one of the offenders, Detective Inspector Graham Banks told media yesterday.
The 19-year-old was shot and died at the scene, despite efforts by emergency services to revive him.
A 27-year-old woman, who lived at the home, was slashed with the machete while her partner, a 28-year-old man, was uninjured.
Police confirmed the male resident is known to authorities and believe the attack was targeted.
He was questioned by homicide detectives yesterday and no charges were laid.
Following the alleged raid, a 22-year-old man took himself to hospital with a gunshot wound on his lower body and underwent emergency surgery.
Whether he was one of the men involved in the alleged home invasion is also under investigation.
Later that same day, bullets were found scattered in nearby streets and a handgun was found dumped in a car in Doreen – about 15 minutes away from the scene of the incident.
Detectives are still working to establish how the events of the alleged early-morning attack unfolded and have not yet ruled out links to organised crime.
”It’s far too early to establish what the actual motive is and we’re seeking to identify all the parties involved,” Banks said yesterday.
