Suspect busted in fatal stabbing of NYC dad who confronted him for taking photos of cousin: cops

A man was busted this week in the deadly stabbing of a Brooklyn dad who confronted him for taking photos of his cousin last month, police and law enforcement sources said.

Roger Collado, 38, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with murder, as well as two counts of assault and a weapon possession rap, in connection to the July 18 attack on 36-year-old Severiano “John” Reyes at the corner of Roebling Street and South 9th Street in Williamsburg, cops said.

Collado had allegedly been hassling Reyes and two relatives who were with him that evening, a 45-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, police said.

The clash heated up when the Collado allegedly refused to stop repeatedly taking pictures of Reyes’ cousin, sources said.

Reyes approached the suspect and asked him to put the camera down, according to the sources.

That’s when Collado allegedly plunged a knife into Reyes’ neck, cops said.

The father of four was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but could not be saved.

The two relatives of Reyes’ were also hurt: The man was slashed in the neck and back and the woman was stabbed in the wrist, according to cops.

Both were hospitalized in stable condition.

The slain man’s family described the alleged killer as a deranged childhood classmate who attacked as part of revenge over a long-festering grudge.

Collado lived at the corner where the deadly stabbing occurred, and Reyes lived in Bushwick.

“This man came up to my brother two weeks ago,” the victim’s grieving sister Yvette Reyes told the Daily News. “He said, ‘You took something from me when we were children.’ This is premeditated murder.”

According to his sister, Reyes and his killer had been in the same special education class more than two decades ago but had not kept in close contact.

“Unfortunately my brother was stabbed in an unprovoked attack by someone we don’t know personally,” Yvette wrote on a GoFundMe.

“We weren’t prepared for such a traumatic tragedy to happen … my brother was such a good person.”
