The 1.5-metre statue, dubbed “Garry”, was nicked from a retirement community on St Helena Road, St Helena, at about 4pm on June 6.

Police carried out an extensive investigation, finally focusing on a residence of interest in Reservoir.

The Air Wing was called in, and spotted a lonesome Garry tucked away in a backyard.

Police carried out a search warrant at a home on Monday and recovered the adored ape.

Officers will take Garry back to his rightful home this afternoon.
