A Pokémon card thought to be worth more than $8000 has been found but the circumstances behind its violent theft and recovery remain cloaked in mystery.
A 38-year-old man told police he was assaulted by a purported buyer when he tried to sell rare collectable cards in a Wollongong car park on Friday night.

He said a card worth more than $8000 was stolen at the meeting point at Lake Entrance Road and Shellharbour Road in Warilla about 10.45pm.

Detectives are appealing for information after a valuable collectable 'Pokemon'-brand card was stolen, and a man assaulted, at Warilla last month.

Police tonight revealed the card was found “a short time later”, following a public appeal for help.

But they never detailed which Pokémon features on the card and refused to say how it was recovered, citing “operational reasons”.

They’re still investigating the assault and want to speak to the driver of a red 2023 Ford Mustang with grey stripes seen near the car park on Friday night.

They say the driver may be able to help with their inquiries.
