A machete-wielding motorist is seen approaching a ute in traffic this week

Startling footage has emerged of the moment a machete-wielding motorist walked through traffic before allegedly unleashing on the driver of a Toyota HiLux on a busy suburban street.

Dressed in a hi-vis vest, the tradie appeared to briefly speak to his fellow motorist through his ute’s window before allegedly taking a swing at the car and shattering the glass.

After seemingly smashing the window, the man stalks back to his own vehicle before both of the drivers leave the scene.

Police confirmed a 47-year-old man had been charged over the incident, which occurred in Glossop Street in St Marys, in Sydney’s north-west, a little after 5pm on Thursday.

‘It was just so scary,’ a rattled onlooker, who filmed the incident, told Nine News.

‘As soon as he was tapping on the window with the machete, I’m like, “Yeah, something’s going to happen”.

‘We have no idea what happened, why he did this.’
