A speed camera operator has been allegedly assaulted in a late-night attack carried out by a group of men in Melbourne’s north.

Around five men ambushed the traffic camera vehicle on Nicholson St in Coburg just after midnight.

The group allegedly jumped on the car and threw items at the vehicle, smashing several windows.

He was treated for minor cuts. 

Police are investigating the incident and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
