After Biden gave his speech, he asked Yoon to join him on stage to give his karaoke-style rendition of American Pie – which is the South Korean president’s favourite song.
“We want to hear you sing it,” Biden told him.
Yoon promptly belted out the opening few lines of the song to the delight of the US President and other guests who gave him a standing ovation.
Biden then presented Yoon with a guitar signed by McLean who wasn’t able to attend the White House dinner because he is touring Australia.

Yoon is known in South Korea to be a karaoke fan and American Pie is one of his favourite songs.
His musical performance provided some light relief from matters of state.
Earlier the two leaders unveiled a new plan to counter North Korea’s nuclear threat, with the Biden issuing a blunt warning that such an attack would “result in the end of whatever regime” took such action.
