The situation is anticipated to worsen overnight, with tides expected to rise considerably above the normal high tide mark tomorrow afternoon.

Sea levels at Outer Harbour could reach 3.8 metres –  just shy of the 3.9-metre mark that was recorded in the last major weather event four weeks ago.

The State Emergency Service (SES) anticipates potential damage similar to that experienced during that storm, when jetties were badly damaged and had to be closed, over the next 36 hours.

Strong winds have already impacted the Eyre Peninsula.

Closer to Adelaide, wind gusts of up to 90km/h are forecast for the southern Mount Lofty Ranges and parts of the metropolitan coast.

Rain is also anticipated, with totals of 30 to 50 millimetres predicted for the Mount Lofty Ranges and southern coastal areas, with a possibility of thunderstorms.

The severe weather conditions are expected to continue until Wednesday morning.

The public is advised to be prepared.
