The son of an elderly man who played dead after thieves threatened him with a gun is shocked by the crime in Sydney’s south-west.
Dimos, 81, and Vicky, 76, were asleep when the thieves broke into their Edward Street home in Carlton about 11pm.
Dimos was assaulted and threatened with a firearm in his bedroom before the men “fled with a small amount of cash, a safe and the keys to their sedan”, NSW Police said.
Dimos pretended he had been killed to avoid further injury.
The couple own a bakery in the local area.
Their son George said he had never seen it happen before and he thought it was a safe area.

“Mum, mentally she is struggling a bit but physically she is okay,” George said.
“Dad is the opposite, he is more physical, he has been hurt but mentally he is one of those old tough guys.”
9News understands the three thieves stole the couple’s car but only drove 15 metres before crashing it because they couldn’t drive manual.
“The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The woman was not injured, however taken to Hospital as a precaution.”
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they search for the three men.
