Soak it in! Why St. John’s should cut down nets if it wins the Big East title

There are arguments for and against it; reasons that make sense both ways.

There really isn’t a correct path to take when it comes to cutting down the nets Saturday afternoon if St. John’s clinches its first outright Big East regular-season title in 40 years.

On one hand, this isn’t the last game of the year. Seventh-ranked St. John’s still visits Marquette a week later, a showdown that will still have significance for NCAA Tournament seeding purposes.

But for a program that has had so few opportunities to celebrate over the last few decades, it should go all out if it takes down Seton Hall at the Garden to clinch the league crown. Soak it all in. Share the moment with fans who have waited for what must feel like a lifetime for a year like this.
