Snowfall causes slick roads; most of Chicago area could see up to 2 inches | LIVE radar

CHICAGO (WLS) — An early Saturday morning snowfall in the Chicago area caused some slick road conditions.

The Chicago weather forecast called for up to 2 inches for most of the area. The rest of day will remain cloudy with fog possible Saturday afternoon.

ABC7 Meteorologist Jaisol Martinez said a light to moderate snowfall also reduced visibility.

Snow fell steadily from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m., and then scattered for the rest of the morning.

Most locations in the Chicago area will see about 1 to 2 inches of snow on Saturday.

Tom Sheridan said Channahon received 4″ of snow from the overnight storm.

The rest of day remained cloudy with highs into the mid-30s.

Slick conditions led to a vehicle sliding off the roadway in In unincorporated Dundee Township at around 4 a.m. The car ended up crashing in the center ditch and catching fire. An IDOT plow driver stopped to help and call 9-1-1, according to the East Dundee Fire Chief, Jason Parthun. No one in the car was hurt.

Due to the snowfall, federal officials said all FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Cook County will open two hours late Saturday. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal hours resume on Monday, Jan. 8, weather permitting.

Early morning snow showers blanketed parts of Aurora on Saturday.

The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation said it deployed a fleet of salt spreaders Salt spreaders will focus on addressing ice along Chicago’s arterial routes and Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable Lake Shore Drive to ensure they are safe and passable for emergency vehicles, public transportation, and motorists, officials said.

Flurries are also expected on Sunday morning.
