Emergency services are on the scene in Sydney’s south after a sinkhole opened up near an industrial complex.

It’s believed the sinkhole opened up overnight or early this morning, at a car park on West Botany Street in Rockdale.

Employees who work in the complex were notified at about 6am.

Transport for NSW said the area has been cornered off and no roads have been closed yet.

“Transport for NSW is working with Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Police after a subsidence on-site near a commercial building in Rockdale, near the M6 construction site,” a spokesperson said.

The cause of the sinkhole is unknown but it has opened up near a building site for the new M6 tunnel.

It’s not known if the two are linked.

There have been no reports of injuries so far.

Motorists have been encouraged to keep up to date with the latest road closures as assessments at the site are ongoing.
