The Singapore Armed Forces said one Hunter armoured fighting vehicle “rear-ended” another about 7.40pm yesterday while heading back to base at Shoalwater Bay Training Area, near Rockhampton.

Twelve SAF servicemen involved suffered non-serious injuries, the military said in a statement.

“The safety and well-being of our people is of paramount importance,” it said.

“The Army has called for a safety pause to remind drivers to maintain proper distance.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the military took 10 patients to Rockhampton Airport, where they were met by ambulances and taken to hospital.

The reason for the discrepancy in numbers was unclear.

The Australian Defence Force said no ADF personnel or vehicles were injured but Defence provided assistance to the SAF.

Armed forces from Singapore and Australia have been conducting joint operations in the area as part of Exercise Wallaby.

The operations involve about 6200 personnel and 490 vehicles and other machines, and will continue until November 3, according to Singapore’s Ministry of Defence.
