Police have fired shots after an officer’s car was rammed by a truck in Melbourne’s north.

Authorities were called to a premises on Somerton Road in Coolaroo about 3am today following reports of a business being rammed and a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, police found both a truck and a sedan outside the business.

The offenders allegedly rammed the police car with a truck and sedan while attempting to flee, according to police.

“Shots were fired by an officer at the sedan,” a police spokesperson said.

“It is unknown if the shots made contact with either vehicle but they left the area. Fortunately the officers were not injured.”

“An investigation into the incident in underway with oversight by Professional Standards Command as is normal practice when a police firearm is discharged.”

Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone who witnessed the incident, with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
