CCTV footage has captured the moment a man pulled a gun on another driver during an attempted carjacking in Melbourne’s south-east earlier this year.
Police allege a 22-year-old man was driving a 2012 white Volkswagen Passat along the Princes Highway when he was tailgated by another man driving a white stolen Toyota C-HR SUV.

The stolen car then pulled in front of the man’s Volkswagen on Power Road, forcing the man to stop near a Doveton industrial estate about 1am on July 8.

Police believe the driver of the Toyota and three of his passengers got out of the vehicle, before they ambushed the 22-year-old driver, demanding him to get out of his car.

The victim can be seen in the footage reversing his car and speeding off, when the offender allegedly fired a single shot through the man’s windscreen.

The shot missed the driver, who wasn’t injured in the incident.

Victoria Police Senior Constable Daniel Cousins said the bullet just missed the victim.

“(The victim) is distressed,” he said.

“It’s scary for the public when the shots are fired in a public setting.

“It’s not ideal. The bullet was very close to hitting the victim.”

Police said the offending vehicle was found burnt out an hour later about 12km away in Harkaway.
