Ship carrying 200 people hits the Brooklyn Bridge as search and rescue operation underway

A Mexican navy tall sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday night – and a search and rescue operation is underway to pull people out of the murky waters, according to fire officials and sources.

The one of the towering 147-foot masts on the Cuauhtémoc — which was carrying about 200 people on board — collided with the bridge before 9 p.m., sources told The Post.

Victims are being transported to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with those in critical condition being taken to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.

Video of the scene shows a high mast slamming the deck of the bridge and crashing dozens of feet below to the deck. Terrified onlookers in the park on the Brooklyn side under the bridge can be heard in the clip screaming “Oh s–it!”

The vessel, built in Spain in 1982, is giving New Yorkers a taste of what to expect at next year’s blockbuster Sail4th event celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
