Supermarkets in North and Far North Queensland have been having issues delivering supplies to some of their stores as the flood emergency nears its peak.

Roads have been closed, a bridge has collapsed and major sections of the Bruce Highway have been closed after days of serious rain.

The road closures have made it difficult for suppliers to get their food into stores across the region.

Some shelves were partially empty at Coles in Innisfail yesterday.

Meat and fresh produce sections appeared to have the most serious shortages.

Coles in Cairns was also reportedly hit by shortages of fresh produce, with a glut of bananas remaining on the shelves.

Woolworths in Cairns also appeared to have major supply issues.

Widespread road closures around Cairns have delayed deliveries.

“Our team worked hard to prepare our stores with essential supplies ahead of this weather event, and we are working closely with suppliers, transport partners and local authorities to maintain deliveries where roads remain accessible.”

“We ask customers to only buy what they need so that everyone in the community can access essential items.”

Woolworths has also been contacted for comment.
