Self-proclaimed ‘SkinnyGirl’ Bethenny Frankel slams Ozempic craze: ‘NOzempic’

Bethenny Frankel expressed serious concerns about people taking Ozempic — a drug typically meant for type 2 diabetes patients — to lose weight solely for aesthetic reasons.

“This is going to be scary because very thin people who have body dysmorphia and eating disorders are going to be taking this,” the “Real Housewives of New York City” alum warned in a video on Instagram Tuesday.

Frankel, 52, said she has heard that the weight-loss medication is running “rampant” in communities like Boca Raton, Fla., or the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

“I’m hearing stories about it being a mood alterer,” she said. “I’m hearing that it’s affecting people’s personalities.”

Frankel said she had a negative encounter with an individual who took Ozempic. However, she did not disclose the person’s name.

“I had an altercation with someone that has a very mercurial personality and they were on Adderall previously, which is another thing people have done to lose weight and another thing misproperly used to lose weight, and this person would, like, snap,” the former Bravolebrity said.

“Mark my words, we’re not going to hear about the s–t show of this for months and years to come … it’s going to be a f–king s–t show.”

Frankel said the Ozempic craze reminded her of a Chinese herb called Ma Huang that she said was used when she was in her 20s for weight loss purposes as well.

However, the “Big Shot With Bethenny” alum noted that the adverse side effects of that plant were not well-known until years later.

“Ma Huang ended up killing people,” she claimed, adding, “This Ozempic thing is going to f–king go sideways and all the other copy cat names, too.”

Frankel’s comments section with people who both praised her and condemned her for her opinion, including one critic who pointed out, “It’s easy to judge when you have never had issues with weight.”

Frankel has built a brand that promotes a slimmer physique. In 2009, she wrote the book “Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting” and launched the lifestyle company Skinnygirl that same year.

In December 2022, she was slammed by fellow “Housewife” Jackie Goldschneider of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” for creating a brand under that moniker.

“I’m sick of f–king marketing skinny,” the reality star, who has openly battled an eating disorder, told Page Six at the time. “I don’t want to drink something because it’s going to keep me skinny, so f–k you, Bethenny. F–k your skinny brand. That’s how I really feel.”

Frankel’s rep then told us in response, “Bethenny has personal experience with this topic and speaks about it in detail in her book ‘Naturally Thin’ and ‘Business Is Personal.’”

While some celebrities are staying mum about whether they are taking controversial measures to lose weight, some have openly admitted to taking medication.

“Shahs of Sunset” alum Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi revealed in March that she dropped 11 pounds using Ozempic and “RHONJ” star Margaret Josephs shared Tuesday that she has undergone hormone replacement therapy and taken peptides in order to lose weight.

“It’s been life-changing,” Josephs said. “And it’s not about being fat or skinny; it’s about every aspect of my wellness coming together.”
