Emergency services were called to the property on Benboyd Circle in the Hobart suburb of Rokeby at 9am on Sunday, where the home was found alight and the child’s 22-month-old sister was found dead.
Today, police announced the five-year-old, who had been taken to hospital following the blaze, had died overnight.
A 30-year-old remains in a stable condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital.
A 16-month-old, 10-year-old, and 14-year-old have been released from hospital and into the care of their families.
A report will be prepared for the coroner who will determine the cause of the deaths.
A fire investigation carried out by the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) determined the fire started in the lounge room and “there are no suspicious circumstances”.
TFS deputy chief of operations Matt Lowe said his thoughts for all affected by the fire
“The impacts of this tragic fire have been felt by so many, and our deepest condolences are with everyone affected,” Lowe said.
“I’d like to thank the local community for their assistance, especially the neighbours who came to the aid of those affected.
“The scene and investigation have been traumatic, and it’s had a significant impact on first responders who have done an incredible job under extreme circumstances.
“They are commended for their actions and will be supported by our wellbeing support team.”
