Although she is in a stable condition, the injuries she sustained and her mental state mean she has only been able to provide police with limited information.
“We believe she has told us what she can remember… We understand she was in bed and potentially sleeping at the time of the shooting,” detective chief inspector Darren Sly said.
He said there were multiple shots fired inside the house where she was sleeping on Simmat Avenue at Condell Park.
“Whether the woman was the intended victim is still unknown.
“This woman sustained a serious injury and it is appealing of this man to just leave her and out of good grace we would ask him to come forward and hand himself in before police find him.”

Sly could not confirm if the man and women were in a relationship.
He did not believe the shooting was linked to any organised crime groups.
Police described the man as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 175cm tall, with a medium build and a dark beard.
CCTV shows he was wearing a black hoodie, black shorts over full-length black training tights.
