Detectives are investigating after a man was found with a suspected gunshot wound in Melbourne’s CBD overnight.

Officers found the 26-year-old Cairnlea man in a pool of blood near the intersection of Spencer and Lonsdale streets about 3.30am.

He was treated by paramedics for a suspected gunshot wound to the upper body and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police established a crime scene. (Nine)

He has since undergone surgery and remains in the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

Neighbours residing in Little Lonsdale Street reported hearing a large group of male and female voices arguing just before 3am and later heard two gunshots.

“I heard loud bangs, I don’t know if it was multiple people but yeah it was quite intense,” a resident said.

Detectives have established a crime scene and will investigate the incident.
