Sean Payton is moving on from the tongue-lashing he gave Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson during Saturday’s loss to the Lions, and called his relationship with Wilson “great.”
NFL Network cameras had caught Payton laying into Wilson on the sideline after the Broncos had a touchdown wiped away because of offensive offsides called on guard Quinn Meinerz.
The intense interaction between the two was the second of such between the head coach and his starting QB in as many weeks, but Peyton told reporters on Monday that there was nothing more to add about it.
“Nothing more to share,’’ he said during a virtual availability, according to 9News. “It’s certainly in-game intensity, heat of the moment all those things but nothing more to add.”
Payton had told reporters on Saturday night after the 42-17 loss that what he said to Wilson was “none of your business” and that he was not upset with Wilson but rather the penalty itself.
Despite consecutive weeks in which there has been a very one-sided, heated conversation between Payton and Wilson, the Broncos head coach said Monday he hasn’t felt compelled to address it with Wilson or the team.
“Not at all,’’ Payton said. “First of all we haven’t had a team meeting. And Russ and I have a great relationship. No, not at all.”

Wilson did not react and stood stoically as Payton laid into him on the sideline and said after the game, “you want a coach that’s passionate.”
Wilson finished the game completing 18-of-32 pass attempts for 223 yards and a touchdown.
The veteran QB has 272 completions for 2,832 yards and 24 touchdowns, while throwing eight interceptions.
The loss on Saturday was a big one for the Broncos as they dropped to 7-7 and have fallen in two of their last three games while fighting for a playoff spot.
The scene of Payton yelling at Wilson has also reignited the focus on the pair’s relationship, which had been in the spotlight earlier in the season.
The SoFi Stadium video board had caught Payton admonishing Wilson during the Week 14 win over the Chargers.
