In good news for Christmas tables, seafood prices are expected to drop at most major grocery stores as December 25 approaches.
“We’re watching the cyclone closely. At this stage it looks like we’re going to miss any damage, so customers can expect a really good array of fresh tiger prawns,” Woolworths spokesperson Tim Dudding told 9News.
A large selection of prawns will be on offer from tomorrow at both Coles and Woolworths, including cooked Tiger Prawns at $30 per kilogram.
Tiger Prawns will also be available at Alldi from next week at $29.99 per kilogram.
”Prices are really good this year, if not the same price, cheaper than last year,” Coles Spokesperson Courtney Roulston told 9News.
Raw Banana Prawns are also up for grabs at $14 per kilo at both Coles and Woolworths.
“Banana prawns have had a once-in-a-ten-year bumper season,” Roulston said.

While there’s a rare oversupply in prawn supplies, oysters will be a little harder to come by as excessive rain has impacted oyster farms on the East Coast.
“Oysters might be a little bit lighter on the ground, so I would recommend ordering those ahead,” Seafood Industry Association CEO Veronic Papacosta told 9News.
Western Rock Lobster will also be a more affordable option for seafood lovers, going for $23 each at Coles and $24 at Woolworths.
Woolworths are expecting to sell more than 100,000 lobsters over the festive season, while more than one million Christmas hams will be purchased by Christmas.
Those wanting to buy a turkey for the holidays can do so from next week, while hams are on sale now.
Woolworths’ full seafood catalogue will be avaliable from tomorrow.
