Sam Smith strikes pose with corset-clad Madonna after Grammys 2023 drama

Sam Smith worships the house of Madonna.

The “Unholy” singer won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song with Kim Petras at Sunday’s Grammys 2023, making history at the musical awards show and getting an onstage introduction from the Queen of Pop herself.

Smith (who uses “they/them” pronouns) posted an Instagram photo with Madonna on Friday, thanking the icon for her blessings.

“Overwhelmed, grateful and inspired. Thank you for your love and support @madonna. I’ll never forget your kindness,” they wrote.

Smith, 30, wore a sheer red Valentino look in the snap while posing next to Madonna, 64, who channeled her inner dominatrix in an Agent Provocateur corset, piles of diamond necklaces, fishnet tights and a riding crop.

Fans flooded the comment section demanding a collaboration between the two stars. Others shared their support for the pair, both of whom have come under fire lately for their boundary-pushing looks.

Smith’s fiery Grammys performance with Petras sparked controversy with its “satanic” and “evil” imagery, drawing ire from viewers (and conservative politicians including Ted Cruz); the “Stay With Me” singer sported a red top hat adorned with devil horns while onstage, and their dancers rocked demonic masks and bondage-style costumes.

Prior to Sunday’s ceremony, social media users slammed the sexy, skin-baring looks in Smith’s “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” music video, with fans arguing that fatphobia and queerphobia were behind the online attacks.

Madonna, meanwhile, was criticized for her “changing” face at the Grammys; the “Like a Virgin” clapped back at the backlash, saying she is “caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny.”

Wrote Madge on Instagram, “I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.”

And she did just that, showing off the NSFW accessories she brought to the Grammys and making out with songwriter Jozzy in a video posted post-broadcast.

Clearly, Madonna’s not putting away her lingerie — and has no plans to hang up her riding crop.
