Lawyers for Matildas star Sam Kerr have reportedly asked that police security footage from a London police station be preserved as they prepare her defence.

Kerr recently pleaded not guilty to a charge of racially aggravated harassment of a police officer in London last year.

Her trial is set for next February, but her legal team will return to court in April in an attempt to have the charges dismissed or reduced under an “abuse of process” argument.

Now, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported that her barrister Grace Forbes has asked that security footage from outside and inside a London police station, as well as body camera footage, to be made available to the defence.

”We have noted there may be CCTV in this case, both from outside the police station, where the contact began and within the custody suite, and we would simply ask that that be preserved from this point on,” Forbes said, according to court transcripts.

She said she was aware there may be time limits in place for footage to be automatically deleted.

Earlier, police confirmed the Chelsea star was accused of using insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress during the incident in the south-west London suburb of Twickenham.

“The charge relates to an incident involving a police officer who was responding to a complaint involving a taxi fare on 30 January 2023 in Twickenham,” London’s Metropolitan Police said.

Kerr was charged on January 21 this year with the time period between the incident and charge being laid understood to be central to her legal team’s abuse of process claim.

Kerr, who is sidelined with an ACL injury, has not yet spoken publicly about the charges.
