Footage shows the scary moment a young boy's seat belt flies loose while on the slingshot ride at the Sydney Royal Easter Show at the weekend

A young boy was sitting on a fairground ride high about a show attended by millions each year when one of his safety belts came undone.

The terrifying incident happened over the weekend on the slingshot ride at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and was caught on camera.

Footage shows the ride lifting the child up in the air when the harness flies loose. No one was injured.

The video, which appears to be CCTV from the structure, also shows staff buckling the boy into his seat.

Organisers of the fair have made SafeWork NSW aware of the incident and repaired the harness.

‘SafeWork NSW is working with the Royal Agricultural Society and continuing to make enquiries,’ a spokesperson for the regulator said.

It said the organisation is ‘working closely with the Sydney Royal Easter Show event organisers to ensure the safety of more than 800,000 expected visitors’.

‘Since 24 March, SafeWork NSW has been on the ground providing expert advice and conducting compliance activities to keep attendees and workers safe.’

So far during this year’s show, which runs from April 11 to 22, the regulator has issued 23 notices to ensure rides, stalls, and activities meet strict safety standards.

The show’s organisers at RAS told 9News there were other secure mechanisms to protect the boy on the ride.

‘The slingshot is equipped with multiple safety mechanisms to ensure rider safety, with the over-shoulder harness and lap belt being the primary safety restraints,’ they said.

‘The additional seat belt that clips into the ride acts as an additional redundancy.’

Head of Operations, Shane McGrath, echoed the fact that there are three mechanisms to keep people safe.

‘It’s certainly a very disappointing outcome, but I want to assure you that at no stage is the child in any danger at all,’ he said.

RAS has said a safety consultant inspected the ride, the seat belt was repaired and safety procedures have been reviewed and reinforced.
