Sigsworth made his debut for Newtown in Round Two of the 1982 season, against South Sydney Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval.
He would go on to make 25 appearances for the footy club, returning 11 tries.
The fullback, who also enjoyed spells in the centres, is known by many in the rugby league community for having scored Newtown’s last-ever try in the first grade at Henson Park.
It came during their Round 23 clash against Balmain in the 1983 season, with Sigsworth also playing his last-ever game for the Jets.
The following season, the fullback would move to Canberra to play in the premiership after Newtown were excluded from the top flight, having experienced financial issues.
Sigsworth would later move to the UK where he would turn out for the Castleford Tigers for two seasons.
Social media users paid tribute to Sigsworth on X, with one writing: ‘Oh my heart. Great player.’
‘Vale Ron Sigsworth,’ another added.
