Roki Sasaki eliminates Mets with free agency winding down

Roki Sasaki won’t be coming to New York.

After the Yankees learned that they were eliminated from the Sasaki sweepstakes, the Mets were also informed later Monday that Sasaki will not be signing with them, according to The Post’s Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.

The Mets met with Sasaki last month in the first known meeting between the Japanese pitcher and an MLB team, after president of baseball operations David Stearns flew to Japan to watch Sasaki in September.

Stearns had said at the winter meetings that the Mets were going to give it their “best shot” on Sasaki.

Sasaki, 23, has also met with the Dodgers, Padres, Blue Jays, Cubs, Rangers and Giants.

Giants GM Zack Minasian said Monday that he was also informed Sasaki is not signing with them, per multiple reports.

It has long been speculated that Sasaki would be joining the Dodgers to play with compatriots Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, though Sasaki has idolized Padres right-hander Yu Darvish.
