Emergency crews were called to Murray Street in Gawler, 54km north of Adelaide, after a truck smashed into several posts, causing a shop verandah to collapse, at 10pm yesterday.

The road train then travelled on and hit two parked cars before leaving the area.

Police officers tracked down the truck and arrested the driver at Sedan, nearly 70km away.

The 57-year-old man from Western Australia was charged with driving without care, a speeding offence and failing to stop at the scene of a crash.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
